The Red Baron

Manfred von Richthofen, famously known as the “Red Baron” (Der rote Kampfflieger) due to the colour of his aircraft, is one of WW1’s most famous German fighter pilots. In January 1917 he earned himself the Pour le Mérite, Germany’s highest military honour, a medal informally known as The Blue Max. A high quality replica of this award is included with the portrait.
This portrait captures von Richthofen wearing his heavy leather flying coat and before he was killed in action on 21st April 1918 he had claimed 80 victories.
